Political Tremors: Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo Breaks Ranks With President Ruto Over Uhuru Legacy
NAIROBI, KENYA — Intense political debate has erupted across the country following candid remarks made by the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and Digital Economy, Hon. William Kabogo.
As President William Ruto hits the campaign trail across the nation to build strategic alliances ahead of his 2027 reelection bid, a recurring strategy for the head of state and his allies has been firing salvos at former President Uhuru Kenyatta, laying the blame for Kenya’s economic struggles entirely on the previous administration.
However, CS Kabogo has publicly pushed back against this narrative, delivering a statement that has sent shockwaves through the ruling administration.

Speaking during a live broadcast, Kabogo criticized the selective political framing, describing politics as a dirty game where leaders conveniently take credit for past victories while offloading all failures onto retired leaders.
He noted that associating the successes of the Jubilee regime with President Ruto while leaving only the failures for Uhuru is fundamentally flawed and disingenuous.
“The current president was Uhuru’s deputy,” Kabogo stated during an interview. “If they succeeded, they succeeded together, and if they failed, they failed together. They were joined at the hip by a common ticket”.
Kabogo’s bold declaration marks a rare, open divergence of opinion from within President Ruto’s own Cabinet. While allies of the President continue to isolate Uhuru Kenyatta as the source of current challenges, Kabogo’s insistences on shared accountability have resonated widely with citizens and political analysts alike.
The CS’s statement has left Kenyans talking, sparking fresh conversations about accountability, the complexities of the previous regime’s joint leadership, and what this internal disagreement signals for the dynamic of President Ruto’s cabinet ahead of 2027.
