Yvonne Okwara Appointed Head of Investments and Partnerships at Shuga Global Following Citizen TV Exit
Former Citizen TV news anchor Yvonne Okwara has officially taken up a key executive role as the Head of Investments and Partnerships at Shuga Global, just a day after concluding her eight-year tenure at Royal Media Services.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Shuga Global—formerly known as the MTV Staying Alive Foundation—announced Okwara’s appointment as part of its strategic shift toward financial sustainability and global expansion beyond traditional grant funding.
“Shuga Global understands that our communities need opportunities for expanded reach beyond grant-dependency,” the organization stated. “Yvonne joins Shuga as a celebrated corporate communications expert, a fundraising maverick, and an authority on government relations. She has been at the pinnacle of national groundbreaking transformations in journalism and media.”
In her new capacity, Okwara will leverage her deep background in strategic communication, policy, and social impact to build key corporate relationships, unlock funding avenues, and mobilize resources to drive the organization’s long-term operations. The appointment coincides with Shuga Global’s ongoing rebranding initiative and the recent establishment of its new regional hub in Nairobi.
Okwara’s transition comes immediately after an emotional broadcast farewell on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, where she thanked her former colleagues for supporting her fearless approach to journalism.
Her departure drew warm tributes from prominent media figures, including Royal Media Services Editorial Director Linus Kaikai, who described her exit as a major dent in the broadcasting industry.
With over two decades of history empowering young people, Shuga Global expects Okwara’s leadership to play a pivotal role in securing sustainable revenue models and expanding its developmental influence across international borders.
