Lawyer and political commentator Miguna Miguna has launched a blistering attack on Siaya Governor James Orengo, accusing him of political stagnation and demanding his immediate retirement from elective politics.

In a public statement, Miguna insisted that citizens are seeking a genuinely independent republic rather than a dynastic arrangement where political power is treated as an inherited privilege.

Turning his focus to the political legacy of the late opposition leader Raila Odinga, Miguna claimed that Odinga’s participation in the broad-based government with President William Ruto constituted a betrayal of the youth-led movement that demanded systemic democratic reforms.

Asserting that the public has not forgotten those political maneuvers, Miguna argued that entrenched figures failed to protect progressive principles.

Directly targeting Orengo’s political longevity, Miguna underscored the governor’s decades-long tenure in public office, noting that Orengo has served in government since Miguna’s early school days.

The vocal attorney claimed that despite holding positions as a Member of Parliament, Senator, Cabinet Minister, and now Governor of Siaya, Orengo has consistently failed to deliver meaningful transformation for his constituents.

Characterizing Orengo’s leadership as outdated and unproductive, Miguna argued that a politician over the age of 80 should step aside to pave the way for a new generation of reform-minded leadership.

He maintained that long-serving politicians who failed to champion real accountability during their peak years cannot offer modern solutions to the governance challenges facing the country.

The sharp rebuke highlights growing intergenerational friction and public frustration with veteran political leaders across the regional landscape.

As opposition figures navigate realignments ahead of upcoming electoral contests, Miguna’s harsh critique reflects broader demands among political commentators and youth activists for an overhaul of the traditional political establishment.
