But the president was forced to intervene after the United Democratic Alliance Party Governor was heckled in his presence by angry residents.
High drama unfolded in Bomet County as Governor Hillary Barchok faced severe hostility from local residents, forcing President William Ruto to step in and restore order during a public presidential engagement.
The incident occurred during a presidential working tour aimed at commissioning local development initiatives.
The crowd had remained orderly as the Head of State addressed the gathering; however, the atmosphere shifted dramatically when President Ruto invited Governor Barchok to speak.
As Barchok took the microphone and attempted to highlight the accomplishments of his county administration, angry residents drowned out his speech with loud chants, jeers, and hand gestures of disapproval, declaring that they did not want to hear from him.
Efforts by the governor to calm the crowd and address internal grievances proved ineffective as the heckling intensified, making it impossible for him to proceed. Seeing the county boss overwhelmed by the hostile reception, President Ruto intervened to rescue the governor from further embarrassment.
Taking back the microphone, the President sternly reprimanded the crowd for causing disruptions during an official government function.
Lecturing the attendees on political maturity, the President reminded the residents that they had democratically elected their local leaders.
He urged the public to exercise restraint, maintain discipline during public rallies, and wait to express any dissatisfaction with performance through the ballot box during upcoming elections rather than staging public disruptions.
The confrontation highlights underlying political tensions, local rivalries, and growing voter dissatisfaction within the county regarding local governance and service delivery.
Despite the hostility, the presidential team managed to proceed with the scheduled itinerary after restoring calm, though the incident underscored visible friction between the local electorate and county leadership.
