Gloria Orwoba Hints at Pursuing Mechanical Engineering After Completing Degree
Former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has announced plans to study Mechanical Engineering after completing her Bachelor of Management and Leadership degree at the Management University of Africa (MUA).
In a statement shared on LinkedIn, Orwoba celebrated finishing the program, describing the achievement as another major milestone despite facing significant hurdles while studying.
“Now, with my background in Architecture, I am contemplating undertaking a course in Mechanical Engineering,” Orwoba wrote. “Apparently, I have not learned my lesson!”
Orwoba revealed that undertaking her degree coincided with intense professional and personal demands. She balanced her studies while contesting for a Member of Parliament seat during the general election, supporting a presidential campaign, and expecting a child. She added that she went into labor during exam week.
“In hindsight, I would not recommend pursuing a degree during a general election while running for Member of Parliament, serving as a key agent in a presidential campaign, and trying for another baby,” she stated. “The odds were not in my favor, but somehow, I made it!”
She explained that she pursued the program to pair her natural leadership style with formal management training. An official completion letter from the MUA Office of the Registrar, dated October 24, 2026, confirms she fulfilled all academic requirements for the degree, specializing in Business Administration and Management. Her graduation ceremony is scheduled for November 20, 2026, though she noted she will celebrate abroad and miss the physical event.
Orwoba, an alumnus of St. George’s Girls’ Secondary School, holds a diploma in Architecture and a degree in Social Work from the University of Nairobi. Prior to her full-time return to Kenyan politics in 2019, she lived in Europe and managed Facebook’s data center in Denmark. Appointed to the Senate in 2022 to represent women, she gained prominence advocating against period poverty before her exit from the Senate in 2025.
