Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has raised concerns over the growing tension surrounding political gatherings, urging citizens to exercise greater caution when deciding which events to attend.
Speaking during a public engagement, Murkomen said Kenyans should carefully consider their safety before turning up at political rallies, particularly those linked to individuals accused of mobilising groups capable of causing disruption.
The CS warned that political events should not become spaces where ordinary citizens are exposed to unnecessary danger. He said Kenyans have a responsibility to protect themselves and avoid situations that could quickly deteriorate into violence.
Murkomen specifically called on citizens to stay away from rallies organised by politicians associated with goons, arguing that participation in such gatherings could expose attendees to serious risks.
He cautioned that political excitement should not override personal safety.
His remarks come amid heightened political activity across the country, with politicians increasingly holding public rallies and mobilising supporters ahead of upcoming political contests.
Such gatherings have occasionally attracted large crowds, raising concerns over security, confrontations and the possibility of criminal elements infiltrating political events.
The Interior CS stressed that the government remains focused on maintaining law and order while protecting Kenyans exercising their constitutional rights.

However, he said citizens should also take personal responsibility by assessing the environment surrounding political meetings before attending.
Murkomen’s warning also highlights the delicate balance between political mobilisation and public security.
Political rallies remain an important part of Kenya’s democratic process, allowing leaders to engage supporters, articulate policies and campaign for public backing.
However, the presence of unruly groups can undermine those objectives and create an environment in which innocent participants may become victims.
The CS’s comments are likely to attract attention from political leaders and their supporters, particularly those whose rallies have previously been associated with confrontations or accusations of organised intimidation.
He urged Kenyans not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of political violence, emphasising that no political gathering is worth putting one’s life at risk.
Murkomen’s message effectively places the responsibility on both political leaders and their supporters to ensure that political activities remain peaceful.
Leaders organising rallies are expected to maintain order among their supporters, while citizens have been encouraged to make decisions that prioritise their safety.
As political activities intensify, the government’s warning could increase scrutiny of rallies and the groups mobilised to attend them. Kenyans are now being urged to remain vigilant and avoid gatherings where the security situation appears uncertain.
