Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has mounted an aggressive critique of President William Ruto, urging him to cease deflecting political blame onto retired President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gachagua dismissed arguments that Ruto successfully defeated Kenyatta in 2022, clarifying that voters simply were not convinced at the time by Kenyatta’s warnings regarding Ruto’s leadership capacity.
However, Gachagua asserted that three years of governance have validated those early concerns.
He declared that Kenyatta no longer needs to persuade the public, as citizens have directly experienced the current administration’s policies.
Rejecting claims that the opposition relies on external sponsors, Gachagua emphasized that Ruto’s actual opponents in 2027 are ordinary Kenyans.
He pointed to overtaxed employees, youth targeting, strained healthcare systems, struggling business owners, and families facing a high cost of living as the core force driving political change.
According to Gachagua, public dissatisfaction is widespread across all demographics, making financial inducement ineffective in altering voter resolve.
Referencing recent public hostility in Olkalou and disruptions in Embu, Gachagua characterized these events as early indicators of voter sentiments toward state machinery and monetary distribution.
He warned that citizens would accept financial inducements while still voting against the administration at the ballot box.
Gachagua concluded by stating that the opposition’s primary focus is consolidating behind a single presidential candidate to challenge the current leadership.
Framing the upcoming election as a settled verdict by the electorate, he called on the administration to begin preparing for a political transition, declaring that the government’s electoral outcome is already sealed.
