Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been captured in an emotional moment as he headed back to prison following a fresh sentencing in the Sh588.7 million corruption and money laundering case.

In a video circulating online, the former governor is seen shedding tears as he makes his way to prison, marking another dramatic chapter in his prolonged legal battle over alleged corruption during his tenure at the Kiambu County Government.

On Monday, November 2, 2026, Milimani Anti-Corruption Chief Magistrate Harrison Barasa sentenced Waititu to a total of Sh21 million in fines, with alternative prison terms amounting to 13 years across three money laundering counts.

Waititu was fined Sh10 million under Count 10, with a five-year imprisonment term in default. He received another Sh6 million fine under Count 11, carrying a four-year default sentence, and Sh5 million under Count 12, carrying another four years.

The court directed that the prison sentences run concurrently, meaning the longest default term is five years.

The latest ruling follows an October 14, 2026, High Court decision by Justice Rose Ougo, which overturned Waititu’s earlier acquittal on three money laundering charges.

The case dates back to his tenure as Kiambu governor, when the county government awarded a Sh588.7 million road construction contract to Testimony Enterprises Limited during the 2017/2018 financial year.

Investigators accused Waititu of benefiting from payments linked to the contract through companies associated with him and his wife, Susan Wangari Ndung’u.

In February 2025, Waititu was convicted of corruption-related offences and sentenced to 12 years in prison or pay a Sh53.5 million fine. His wife also received a one-year prison sentence or a Sh500,000 fine.

The latest sentencing adds another legal blow to the former governor, who was impeached in January 2020 over allegations of abuse of office and misconduct.

His political and legal troubles have continued attracting public attention as Kenya intensifies its fight against corruption.
