Lawyer and politician Miguna Miguna has criticised DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua over his claim that President William Ruto would kill former President Uhuru Kenyatta if he wins a second term. Gachagua added that he would flee to the United States should that happen.
In a post on X, Miguna described Gachagua as a cowardly tribalist and accused him of trying to frighten Kikuyus.
He argued that the claim does not hold up, noting that Ruto is already president. He questioned why Uhuru has not been harmed so far, and why Gachagua himself has not left for the United States.
Miguna urged the former Deputy President to compete with ideas and set out his vision for the country. He called the orchestration of hatred primitive, addressed Gachagua as “Geoffrey,” and ended his post with the hashtag #RevolutionNow.
Gachagua made the remarks during an interview on Kiririmbi. He has not presented evidence to support the allegation concerning Uhuru, and the government has not responded to the claim.
Miguna is not the only critic. Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria said it was disturbing for a leader of Gachagua’s standing to talk of relocating abroad, asking what would become of millions of Kenyans who have no such option. He also accused Gachagua of blaming an imaginary Mt Kenya disunity for a possible Ruto victory.
Kuria went further, questioning how Gachagua was able to afford a ranch in Texas. That claim has not been independently verified.
The exchange underscores how heated the political debate has become as the 2027 General Election approaches. Gachagua’s supporters are likely to read his warnings as a call to unite against the government, while critics argue he is using fear to rally the Mt Kenya vote. Gachagua has yet to respond to Miguna’s remarks.
