A fresh political storm is gathering around the Linda Mwananchi movement after Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei made a striking prediction about its future, placing Embakasi East MP Babu Owino at the centre of the unfolding drama.

He also questioned whether Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna would secure a place on the 2027 presidential ballot, arguing that his political party situation could become a major obstacle.
The senator went further, claiming that Sifuna could eventually align with a political party associated with the Luhya community and predicting that he could take up a leadership role within that political arrangement.
Cherargei also turned his attention to Siaya Governor James Orengo, alleging that the veteran politician would eventually return to the Orange Democratic Movement where he said Orengo would seek to atone for what he described as his “grievous sins.”
The remarks come just days after Babu announced that he would not attend every Linda Mwananchi rally because he intends to concentrate on building his political support across Nairobi.
However, Babu has firmly rejected claims of a fallout with Sifuna and said he remains committed to supporting Sifuna’s presidential bid.
That contrast has added another layer of uncertainty to the movement’s political future.
With Sifuna, Babu and Orengo pursuing different political ambitions, Cherargei’s latest prediction is certain to fuel fresh debate over whether Linda Mwananchi can maintain unity as the 2027 elections approach.
