Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has taken a jab at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, dismissing the opposition politician’s rising political ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on current political realignments, the outspoken lawmaker claimed that Sifuna has no genuine intention of seeking the presidency, suggesting instead that the former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General is eyeing regional cultural leadership.
Cherargei mockingly stated that Sifuna does not want to be President, asserting that his true ambition is to become the chairman of the Western Council of Elders.
He further assured the public that Sifuna’s name will not appear on the ballot for the top executive seat when the country goes to the polls in 2027.
Cherargei’s remarks come amid heightened political activity within the opposition movement, where key figures have been positioning themselves to challenge the ruling administration.
The comments directly target recent declarations by a section of Western Kenya leaders and elders who publicly backed Sifuna to play a central role in opposition presidential negotiations.
By reducing Sifuna’s national political push to localized community elder status, Cherargei sought to downplay the Nairobi Senator’s growing influence among youth voters and urban strongholds.
The ribbing highlights the ongoing rhetorical battles between President William Ruto’s allies and vocal opposition leaders.
While Sifuna has continued to lead anti-government rallies under the Linda Mwananchi platform alongside other principals, Kenya Kwanza insiders like Cherargei maintain that the opposition lacks a clear, formidable presidential contender.
Cherargei’s remarks reinforce the ruling coalition’s narrative that opposition figures are merely engaged in local posturing rather than mounting a serious national challenge for State House.
