Natembeya Urges Political Tolerance After Crowd Boos Kalonzo at Linda Mwananchi Launch
NAIROBI, Kenya — Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has appealed to supporters of the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) to exercise tolerance and accommodate differing political views. His call follows a hostile moment on Friday, October 30, 2026, when sections of a crowd booed Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka during the launch of the movement’s headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.
The confrontation unfolded as Musyoka addressed the gathering. Interruptions erupted across the audience with chants of “President Sifuna,” referring to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. The friction prompted both Musyoka and Sifuna to intervene, urging attendees to allow speakers to finish.
Addressing the crowd, Natembeya—who was proposed to lead the movement’s presidential campaign team—stressed that the opposition remains at a sensitive juncture requiring patience, unity, and open dialogue.
“Wacha nimalize. Unajua mahali tuko, tuko mahali kwa delicate sana. Lazima tuongeleshane pamoja,” Natembeya stated, warning that internal division could undermine their broader political mission. He added: “Kuna watu ambao wataka kutuharibia hii safari tunayoenda.”
Natembeya cautioned against creating an impression that supporters are coerced into chanting for specific figures, urging attendees to allow political preferences to surface naturally and peacefully.
He called on LMM supporters to give opposition leaders the required room to deliberate and agree on a single consensus candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
“Kwa sasa patia viongozi nafasi waongee na wakubaliane tupate mtu mmoja tutembee pamoja,” he said.
He also asked the media not to sensationalize the incident, characterizing the crowd’s reaction as a normal expression of diverse views rather than a planned disruption. Natembeya concluded by expressing hope that the gathering would mark a unified step forward for the opposition coalition.
