DCP Victory Wave: Gachagua-Allied Senators Storm Senate in Coordinated Green Attire

NAIROBI, Kenya — In a bold statement of political momentum, senators allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua caused a stir in the Senate chambers on Tuesday after making a dramatic entry dressed in the uniform colors of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

Led by Nyandarua Senator John Methu, Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, and Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu—alongside Senators John Kinyua (Laikipia), Kamau Murango (Kirinyaga), and John Seki (Kajiado)—the lawmakers arrived wearing matching bright green blazers, white shirts, and dark trousers.

The coordinated display turned heads across Parliament grounds and briefly interrupted floor proceedings inside the chamber as colleagues reacted to the visual spectacle.

The high-profile appearance comes just days after DCP secured a historic victory in the Ol-Kalou parliamentary by-election. DCP candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru clinched a decisive win over the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), dealing a significant blow to the ruling coalition, which had invested heavily in the contest.

Speaking outside Parliament, the senators framed the green-suited entry as a celebration of public mood rather than simple fashion.

“The results in Ol-Kalou were not just about one parliamentary seat; they sent a clear message about the political direction of the region,” stated Senator John Methu, who was instrumental in the party’s ground campaigns.

The visual show of solidarity underscores the growing footprint of Gachagua’s DCP as opposition factions re-align ahead of the 2027 General Election. While the sudden influx of bright green blazers temporarily threw chamber decorum into lively chatter, it signaled that the battle for political supremacy in the Mt. Kenya region has firmly moved into the halls of Parliament.
