Governance analyst and legal expert Philip Mwangale has taken issue with President William Ruto’s continued public attacks and political blaming of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking in response to the Head of State’s recent nationwide rallies criticizing his predecessor, Mwangale described the executive’s persistent shift of blame as a weak governance strategy.
Analyzing the economic inheritance of the current administration, Mwangale noted that the previous regime was by no means faultless.
He pointed out that systemic plunder, runaway looting, and massive financial mismanagement under Kenyatta left the country in a severe financial deficit.
He acknowledged that any government taking over power after such widespread fiscal recklessness was bound to face immediate operational and economic hurdles.
However, Mwangale emphasized that continuing to fault the former president for a lack of political support or historical economic woes ignores the reality of executive power.
He argued that it reflects poorly on a sitting president—who controls vast state machinery, constitutional authority, and public resources—to repeatedly posture as a victim of past leadership.
Deflecting accountability onto a retired head of state, he noted, offers zero relief to ordinary citizens grappling with a high cost of living and heavy taxation.
The analyst insisted that the current administration was elected to engineer economic solutions and manage public resources effectively, not to engage in perpetual political grievances.
He urged the president to abandon the narrative centered on past administration failures and focus entirely on delivering tangible results, executing state programs, and fulfilling the explicit promises made to the electorate during the campaign.
