Former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has issued a strong public clarification regarding the leadership, ownership, and political structure of the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Reaffirming his stance on the direction of the progressive opposition caucus, the veteran constitutional law scholar emphasized that no individual leaders possess exclusive ownership of the citizen-led push, framing it instead as a broader national liberation cause.
Addressing ongoing political speculation and internal debate surrounding the coalition’s management, Kibwana stressed that neither Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna nor Embakasi East MP Babu Owino own the movement.
He categorized Linda Mwananchi as a direct continuation and reincarnation of the youth-led protest movement that swept the country, fueled by the enduring spirit of political struggle and systemic reform.
According to Kibwana, the initiative belongs entirely to the public, designed to champion citizens’ economic and governance interests rather than serve as a private political vehicle for individual politicians.
Laying out the functional division of political responsibilities within the coalition, Kibwana explicitly highlighted the movement’s slate for major upcoming elective seats.
He declared that Sifuna stands as the designated presidential flag bearer for the Linda Mwananchi banner, positioning the Nairobi senator at the head of the national ticket.
Simultaneously, he affirmed that Babu Owino is set to pursue the Nairobi gubernatorial seat under the movement’s umbrella, establishing a clear line of leadership across key political contests.
Calling for political discipline, calm, and mutual focus among supporters and coalition partners, Kibwana urged all factions to lower political temperatures, halt divisive internal posturing, and concentrate on the broader campaign.
His declarations seek to solidify the movement’s hierarchy, eliminate ambiguity over flag bearers, and safeguard its foundational identity as a genuine, grass-roots-driven reform collective.
