Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna and his allies in Linda Mwananchi had a successful rally in Nairobi County over the weekend.

But President Dr William Samoei Arap Ruto’s close ally has called out the former Orange Democratic Movement Party Secretary General for using goons during the rally.

Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has mounted a sharp political offensive against Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, questioning his commitment to the rule of law following recent disruptions in the capital.

Cheruiyot directly challenged Sifuna, alleging that criminal elements accompanied political caravans during opposition public processions through the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

He maintained that if Sifuna genuinely champions constitutionalism, he must publicly condemn and distance himself from youth groups accused of harassing small traders and robbing pedestrians in the city center.

The Majority Leader argued that true adherence to constitutional values requires political leaders to take full responsibility for the mobs operating within their mobilization machinery.

He stressed that elected officials cannot preach respect for the Constitution while turning a blind eye to lawlessness that directly compromises public safety and local commerce.

Cheruiyot’s remarks build on his broader critique of political violence, where he has frequently called out leaders for using unregulated crowds to intimidate political opponents and project influence.

In response, political figures aligned with Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi movement have systematically dismissed accusations of sponsoring goons.

Sifuna has repeatedly countered that non-state actors and opportunistic agents infiltrate political rallies to cause deliberate chaos and stain legitimate opposition activities.

He maintains that enforcing law and order in the CBD remains the sole constitutional duty of the National Police Service, demanding that law enforcement arrest suspects on merit rather than deploying political blame games.

The exchange highlights growing national debate over political accountability, public order, and the rights of citizens amid heightened political activity in Nairobi.
