Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has called for the immediate dismissal of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, accusing him of having links to alleged political violence witnessed during recent rallies.

Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi, Babu claimed that chaos witnessed at opposition gatherings was not accidental but orchestrated by individuals within the security apparatus.

He alleged that certain state officers were using their positions to intimidate and frustrate political opponents ahead of the 2027 General Election.

We cannot have a country where security agencies are weaponized to settle political scores,” Babu said. “If the Interior PS cannot guarantee impartiality and professionalism within his docket, then he has no business remaining in office.”

The outspoken lawmaker accused senior officials in the Ministry of Interior of failing to act against individuals allegedly involved in disrupting rallies.

He further claimed that youth groups had been mobilized to infiltrate peaceful assemblies and cause chaos, putting lives and property at risk.

Babu insisted that accountability must start at the top, arguing that as Principal Secretary in the Interior Ministry, Omollo bears ultimate responsibility over administrative and security coordination matters.

He called upon President William Ruto to take swift action to restore public confidence in the ministry.

“The buck stops with him. Leadership demands responsibility,” Babu added, maintaining that failure to act would embolden further acts of political intolerance.

However, leaders allied to the government dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.

They accused the Embakasi East MP of attempting to shift blame and inflame tensions for political mileage.

Some lawmakers urged Babu to present evidence to investigative agencies instead of making public accusations.

Efforts to get a response from the Interior Ministry were ongoing by the time of publication.

Sources within the security sector, however, maintained that law enforcement officers remain committed to neutrality and upholding the rule of law regardless of political affiliation.

The allegations come amid rising political temperatures as various factions position themselves ahead of the next general election.

Instances of clashes between rival supporters have been reported in parts of Nairobi and other urban centers, raising concerns about escalating tensions.

Political analysts warn that inflammatory rhetoric from leaders across the divide risks deepening divisions and undermining democratic processes.

They have called for restraint and dialogue among stakeholders to safeguard peaceful political engagement.

As the controversy unfolds, attention now shifts to whether formal investigations will be launched and whether the President will respond to the calls for action.
