The emerging possibility of split-ticket voting is already generating debate, particularly in Nairobi, where voters have repeatedly demonstrated that political preferences can shift from one election to another.
In a striking example, city lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi said voters could support President William Ruto for President while choosing Babu Owino for Governor and Haji Omar for MP.
“The good thing about 2027 elections is that voters will pick their choices across party lines,” Ahmednasir said.
He explained that Nairobi voters could select what they consider the strongest candidate for each position regardless of party affiliation, political alliances or previous rivalries.
The lawyer further described Nairobi voters as educated, politically conscious, tribal neutral and resistant to bribery, suggesting that personal assessment of candidates could play a major role in the next election.
His remarks come as political parties and prominent leaders intensify their preparations for the 2027 polls. Nairobi is expected to be one of the most fiercely contested political arenas, with major battles likely across several elective positions.
