Trade unionist Francis Atwoli has weighed in on the growing political clash within the Orange Democratic Movement. The clash is about the handling of campaign funds intended for election agents during the 2022 General Election. He admitted he cannot determine who is right. He also cannot determine who is wrong in the dispute between Junet Mohamed and Edwin Sifuna.
The internal feud has spilled into public view. It erupted when ODM Secretary-General Sifuna accused Suna East MP Junet Mohamed. He accused him of failing to remit money donated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. This money was meant for paying election agents. An omission he claims contributed to former premier Raila Odinga’s defeat.
Sifuna said a large share of the party’s 2022 campaign funds came from Uhuru. He charged that Junet “ate some of the money” instead of distributing it to agents.
Junet has vehemently denied the allegations. He counters that he never received the funds directly. Instead, he blames the handling of the money on Uhuru. Junet says Uhuru released it to his brother, Muhoho Kenyatta.
Muhoho then appointed an aide to manage agent payments. According to Junet, that process was opaque and inaccessible to senior party leaders even to Raila Odinga himself.

The ongoing row has divided party members. Some are calling for unity and dialogue to resolve the confusion. Others suggest the issue is being used as leverage in broader post-Raila leadership maneuvers within ODM.
Amid the acrimonious exchanges, Atwoli noted that many individuals contributed personal funds towards agent mobilization. He questioned how money was actually allocated. Hinting at possible missteps or misdirection that still need transparent accounting. “Somebody somewhere cheated us,” he said, underlining the need for full clarity on the money trail.
