Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has strongly criticized Coast residents and political leaders chanting “one-term” slogans against President William Ruto, asserting that the region has no valid reason to turn its back on the current administration.
Speaking at a public gathering in Mtongwe within Likoni Constituency, Kingi argued that the Coast region endured decades of socio-economic marginalization under past regimes.
In contrast, he described President Ruto as the first Head of State to genuinely offer the coastal population a reliable shoulder to lean on.
Kingi expressed deep surprise that anyone from the region would advocate for a single term for the President, emphasizing that after years of historical neglect, the local populace cannot afford to abandon a leader who has demonstrated concrete support for their long-standing grievances.
The Speaker highlighted the administration’s focus on unlocking the economic potential of the blue economy, resolving historical land tenure challenges, and accelerating key infrastructural projects as clear evidence of goodwill toward the Coast.
He cautioned both leaders and residents against engaging in political rhetoric that could isolate the region from the central government, warning that hostile slogans risk undermining critical development partnerships.
Kingi urged the regional leadership to champion unity and foster a constructive working relationship with the national government.
By prioritizing political stability and diplomatic engagement over early election posturing, he argued, the region stands a far better chance of securing lasting economic empowerment, infrastructure growth, and sustained resource allocation for future generations.
