Political broadsides within the country’s leadership have intensified as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna launched a scathing critique against President William Ruto’s governance model.

Addressing a public rally during an opposition outreach tour, Sifuna questioned the administration’s political mindset, comparing its centralized approach to the authoritarian era of Kenya’s late former President Daniel arap Moi.

Sifuna expressed wonder over the operational philosophy coming out of State House, questioning whether the occupant of the Office of the President operates under the illusion of leading an earlier, autocratic political dispensation.

He argued that the current leadership appears out of touch with the modern constitutional realities that demand accountability, institutional independence, and public consultation.

Sifuna asserted that the administration’s heavy-handed tactics and attempts to compel deference from citizens reflect an outdated governing style that belongs to a bygone era.

The opposition lawmaker emphasized that the nation’s political landscape has fundamentally shifted, with younger generations demanding active participation rather than top-down decree.

Rejecting calls from the executive for absolute deference, Sifuna insisted that respect for state offices must be earned through institutional integrity, adherence to the rule of law, and fulfillment of statutory obligations.

He urged the Head of State to uphold the constitutional status of the presidency as a national unifying institution rather than utilizing executive authority to suppress political dissent.

The sharp remarks underscore growing friction between the executive branch and minority lawmakers as public debate intensifies over governance, economic management, and constitutional fidelity.

Sifuna’s critique reflects a broader strategy by opposition figures to frame the current administration as an overreaching authority, rallying public support around democratic safeguards and institutional reform.
