Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has vehemently denied any involvement in the deadly violence that disrupted the Linda Mwananchi political rally in Homa Bay.
Rebuffing accusations that he organized local youths to clash with visiting politicians, the lawmaker decided to spill the beans and reveal the people who were behind that bad motive.
Addressing the media following intense public backlash and scrutiny, Kaluma asserted that hired criminals, including murderers and violent robbers, were deliberately imported to cause mayhem and destabilize the area.
He claimed that armed gangs and mobilized groups were paid to orchestrate the unrest, which resulted in fatal casualties, multiple injuries, and destroyed property.
According to the MP, the local community was merely reacting to an aggressive influx of sponsored goons rather than initiating hostilities against the opposition movement.
The developments follow summons issued to Kaluma by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission over allegedly inciteful remarks made on the eve of the event.
The agency warned that statements directed at those opposing the current political order could constitute hate speech and political intolerance. In response, Kaluma urged the commission to remain impartial, objective, and fair in its ongoing evaluation.
He asked investigators to thoroughly trace the financial trail, logistical planning, and individuals behind the recruitment of the violent elements rather than scapegoating local political leaders.
Kaluma called upon security agencies to conduct comprehensive investigations into the motorcycles, vehicles, and temporary lodgings utilized by those who coordinated the violence.
Demanding accountability for all perpetrators, he insisted that justice must be served impartially to restore peace across the region.
