Those remarks came from Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma. In the recording, he declared the area an ODM stronghold that insisted President William Ruto would serve two terms.
Anyone speaking of “one-term,” he said, should be dealt with. He added that hotels and houses where visiting opposition supporters had booked rooms would be checked, and owners must report their guests.
He claimed to have already paid for the fuel needed to carry out the searches across Homa Bay and Rodi.Weeks later, the comments returned to the spotlight.
Government Spokesperson Charles Owino described Kaluma’s statement as careless, primitive, backward, and not expected of a lawmaker.
Speaking on Citizen Monday Report, Owino demanded answers from the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department and the police.
Why, he asked, has Kaluma still not been arrested? The file, Owino insisted, should by now sit with the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The remarks had already drawn criticism from civil society and rival politicians who linked them to the clashes that disrupted the Linda Mwananchi event.
Kaluma has defended himself, saying residents faced provocation and that his focus was on removing potential troublemakers.
Yet Owino’s intervention keeps the pressure on investigators as the 2027 election season approaches, leaving Kenyans watching closely for any formal response.
