Preparations for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations gained momentum after President William Ruto hosted leaders from Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Nandi counties at State House, Nairobi, to discuss plans for the national event that will be held in Eldoret City.
Among the leaders present was Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei, who described the meeting as a significant step towards ensuring the celebrations are successfully organized and reflect the importance of the national holiday.
Taking to social media after the meeting, Shollei said she was honoured to join fellow leaders from the three counties in discussions with President Ruto as the government intensifies preparations for Mashujaa Day.
“Honoured to join fellow leaders from Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Nandi in a meeting with H.E. President William Samoei Ruto at State House as we prepare for Mashujaa Day in Eldoret City,” she said.
Mashujaa Day, celebrated annually on October 20, is one of Kenya’s most significant national holidays. It honours the country’s heroes and heroines who contributed to the struggle for independence and those who continue to make remarkable contributions to national development.
This year’s celebrations are expected to attract thousands of Kenyans, senior government officials, diplomats and international guests to Eldoret City, making it one of the biggest events on the national calendar.

The consultative meeting focused on ensuring adequate planning, coordination and collaboration between the national government and leaders from the host region.
Discussions are expected to have covered infrastructure readiness, security arrangements, transport, accommodation and other logistical requirements necessary for the successful hosting of the celebrations.
Hosting Mashujaa Day presents Eldoret City with an opportunity to showcase its rapid growth as a regional economic hub while boosting local businesses, tourism and investment.
Hotels, transport operators and traders are expected to benefit from the influx of visitors during the celebrations.
The meeting also demonstrated the government’s commitment to working closely with local leaders to ensure the event reflects national unity and promotes inclusivity.
President Ruto has consistently emphasized the importance of national celebrations in fostering patriotism, recognizing outstanding citizens and highlighting Kenya’s development achievements.
