Midnight settled over the capital and the corridors of power grew quiet a single message cut through the darkness like a blade. No press conference, no televised address just a stark warning aimed directly at the highest office in the land. Something had finally broken the silence, and the words that followed would not be easy to ignore. Read Full Article Here

The numbers he cites are stark. When the current administration took office, public debt stood at Sh8.7 trillion. Today it has climbed to Sh13 trillion an increase of Sh4.3 trillion in just four years. That relentless rise has now triggered official alarm.

The Controller of Budget has urged the Treasury to halt further borrowing, noting that the country has already smashed the 55 percent debt-to-GDP ceiling.Omtatah’s metaphor is deliberate and devastating.

Declaring the crisis solved or diminished while the figures keep growing does nothing to shrink the problem. A mountain remains a mountain no matter how loudly one insists it is merely a gentle slope.

The warning challenges the government to confront the scale of the burden rather than rebrand it.For ordinary Kenyans the consequences are real: higher interest payments crowd out spending on schools, hospitals and infrastructure.

Every additional shilling borrowed today is a claim on tomorrow’s taxes and opportunities. Omtatah’s intervention therefore goes beyond partisan point-scoring.

It is a demand for honesty about the size of the challenge and the urgency of genuine solutions.Whether the message prompts a change in course remains to be seen.

What is clear is that the mountain is still there, and standing on its summit while calling it a hill will not make it smaller. The night warning has been delivered. The question now is whether it will be heard.
