University of Eldoret Mourns the Passing of Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Philip Raburu

ELDORET, KENYA — The academic community is in deep mourning following the sudden passing of Prof. Philip Raburu, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Planning, Research, and Extension at the University of Eldoret.

The institution announced his death with profound sadness, honoring a distinguished scholar and administrator whose contributions significantly advanced research and institutional growth.

Prof. Raburu leaves behind a distinguished legacy built on decades of academic excellence, mentorship, and extensive research in environmental science and hydrobiology.

Strong Educational Foundation

Prof. Raburu’s academic journey was marked by a steady pursuit of higher learning:

Primary & Secondary Education: He began his educational journey at Migingo Primary School before proceeding to Maranda High School for his O-levels and Maseno High School for his A-levels.
Undergraduate Studies: He earned a Bachelor of Education Science (Botany and Zoology) degree with Upper Second Class Honours from Kenyatta University in 1986.
Postgraduate Studies: He obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Hydrobiology from the University of Nairobi.
Doctorate Degree: He earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from Moi University.

Throughout his career, Prof. Raburu authored over 50 published articles in refereed journals, led numerous national and regional consultancies, and successfully supervised dozens of master’s and doctoral students. His colleagues and students remember him as a dedicated scholar, mentor, and visionary leader.
