Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku presided over the official launch of the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga Regional Leadership and Governance Academy at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to nurture ethical, visionary and transformative leadership.

The newly launched academy is designed to serve as a centre of excellence for leadership development, governance training and public policy education.

According to the government, the institution will embody the leadership spirit, vision and aspirations of Raila Odinga, whose political career has spanned decades and left a lasting impact on Kenya’s democratic and governance landscape.

Speaking during the launch ceremony, CS Ruku described the academy as a fitting tribute to one of Kenya’s most remarkable leadership journeys.

He noted that the institution would inspire current and future leaders to embrace integrity, accountability, inclusivity and service to the people.

“The academy will stand as a beacon of leadership excellence, preserving the ideals and values that have shaped Kenya’s democratic evolution while preparing leaders capable of addressing emerging governance challenges,” Ruku said.

The facility, located within the Kenya School of Government, is expected to host regional and international leadership programmes, policy dialogues, executive training and governance research.

It will also provide a platform for knowledge exchange among leaders, scholars and public servants from across Africa.

Government officials present at the event said the academy reflects Kenya’s commitment to strengthening leadership capacity and promoting good governance as a foundation for sustainable development.

They added that investing in leadership training is critical to building resilient institutions capable of responding to the evolving needs of citizens.

The launch also highlighted Raila Odinga’s contribution to Kenya’s political history, democratic reforms and regional diplomacy.

Organisers noted that his decades long public service continues to provide valuable lessons for aspiring leaders seeking to champion constitutionalism, inclusivity and national unity.

The academy is expected to collaborate with regional and international institutions to develop leadership programmes tailored to contemporary governance challenges, including digital transformation, climate resilience, conflict resolution and public sector innovation.

As Kenya continues to position itself as a regional hub for leadership and governance excellence, officials expressed confidence that the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga Regional Leadership and Governance Academy will play a pivotal role in shaping a new generation of leaders equipped with the skills, values and vision needed to drive inclusive growth and strengthen democratic institutions across the continent.

The launch represents not only a tribute to Raila Odinga’s enduring legacy but also a renewed national commitment to investing in leadership that places service, integrity and good governance at the heart of public administration.
