Kenyans React as Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and Runyenjes MP Settle Public Feud Over Road Project
EMBU, Kenya — A public spat has erupted between Embu County Governor Cecily Mbarire and Runyenjes Member of Parliament Hon. Eric Muchangi Karemba after the governor posted updates regarding a local road project, triggering widespread discussion among Kenyans on social media. Both leaders belong to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
The drama unfolded online after Governor Mbarire published photos on her official Facebook page showcasing ongoing murraming and grading works on the Makengi–Kamuraru Road in Gaturi North under the banner “#DeliveringThePlan”.
Shortly after, Runyenjes MP Hon. Muchangi Karemba publicly called out the governor, accusing her of taking credit for infrastructure work initiated and executed following requests from local residents.

In a statement directed at Governor Mbarire, the MP claimed his office took up the maintenance of the Kairungu–Ngoire Road after residents approached him. He noted that because county roads fall under the county government’s jurisdiction, his team formally wrote to the governor’s office for clearance.
“Your Chief Officer wrote to us and gave us the go-ahead, and we did a public participation at Ngoire to the jubilation of the residents,” Karemba wrote. “How then do you rush there to take photos of our work!!”
He concluded his critique with a local proverb, “Wa mûndû akame na mûthara wake!” (Everyone should reap where they sowed), scolding the governor for allegedly claiming political credit for work done by his office.
The heated exchange quickly caught the attention of Kenyans, prompting mixed reactions across online platforms. While some citizens criticized party leaders for squabbling over basic development duties, others underscored the need for transparency in public infrastructure funding and inter-governmental coordination between county chiefs and legislators.
