UDA Fires Back at Uhuru Following Claims Late Raila Odinga Won 2022 Presidential Election
NAIROBI, Kenya — The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has issued a scathing response to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, following his controversial remarks claiming that the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, won the 2022 General Election but was rigged out.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar accused the former Head of State of living in a “fool’s paradise” and failing to move past the election results. The party insisted that President William Ruto won the 2022 polls decisively and conclusively, dismissing Uhuru’s assertions as manifestations of a lingering bitterness over his political defeat.
Uhuru’s Remarks Reopen Old Wounds
The war of words was reignited earlier in the day during a Jubilee Party National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Nairobi. Addresssing party members, Kenyatta insisted he still believes Raila Odinga was the rightful victor of the August 2022 poll. Uhuru questioned how the Azimio la Umoja coalition secured a majority in Parliament and county seats, yet lost the presidential race, hinting at backstage maneuvers that subverted the people’s will.

“We know how things went down, and we do not want it to happen again,” Kenyatta stated, asserting that the late opposition chief was denied his victory.
UDA Hits Back: “Uhuru Has Never Healed”
Responding to the allegations, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar released a signed press statement, accusing Kenyatta of failing to accept that President Ruto won despite state machinery being deployed against him in 2022.
“Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta continues to live and wallow in a fool’s paradise,” Omar stated. “His comments today—that he ‘still believes’ that the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga won the 2022 election and ‘we all know what happened’—is the perpetual realization that he TOTALLY lost power and is going to lose it in 2027.”
Omar further claimed that Uhuru has never recovered from the defeat of his preferred candidate. He added that the former president’s second term was only made possible through the vigorous campaigns mounted by William Ruto in 2013 and 2017 when Ruto served as his running mate.
“Truth be told, Uhuru would not have even won the 2013 and 2017 election were it not for the vigorous campaign mounted by President Ruto, then as his running mate. He owes his two terms to President William Ruto,” the press statement read.
Reminders of Bomas Drama and Looking Ahead to 2027
The ruling party went on to accuse the former regime of unconstitutional attempts to subvert the election outcome. Omar pointed to the events at the Bomas of Kenya tallying center on August 15, 2022, alleged threats against former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, and the disappearance of UDA supporters as historical evidence of efforts to block Ruto’s presidency.
With political tensions rising as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections, UDA warned Kenyatta that his continued political interference would yield similar results. The party concluded by stating that President Ruto will win another resounding victory in 2027, placing Kenyatta and his political allies once again into “the dustbin of political paralysis”.
