There is no doubt that the United Opposition is planning to field one candidate who will face President Dr William Samoei Arap Ruto in the forthcoming general elections to be held in August next year.
The United Opposition has welcomed many politicians who have ditched President Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza Alliance Government, in the hope of unseating the incumbent President Ruto. But they have been warned about one politician.
Kiambu County Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa has issued a warning to opposition leaders over their engagement with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, alleging that the lawmaker could be working as a political spy for President William Ruto.
Thang’wa cautioned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, former CS Eugene Wamalwa, and other opposition figures to be cautious about sharing sensitive political strategies with Nyoro. He alleged that the Kiharu MP could listen to discussions within opposition circles and relay information back to President Ruto and his allies.
The remarks have introduced a new dimension to the ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election. Opposition leaders have been holding consultations as they explore possible alliances and strategies for challenging the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Nyoro has remained an influential figure in national politics and has previously been associated with President Ruto’s political camp. His position and extensive networks have made him a significant player in conversations surrounding the country’s political future.
Thang’wa’s allegations, however, remain political claims and have not been independently established. They are likely to generate further debate within opposition circles over trust, political infiltration, and the handling of confidential coalition discussions.
The warning comes at a time when Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party, Kalonzo’s Wiper Democratic Movement, DAP-K, and other political formations are positioning themselves ahead of the next election.
As opposition leaders continue discussions on possible cooperation, questions over who can be trusted with strategic information are expected to become increasingly important. The latest allegations could also deepen political suspicion between leaders on opposing sides of the political divide.
