Ministry of Health Confirms Ninth Ebola Case in Kenya
Kenya’s Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak has risen to nine confirmed cases after the Ministry of Health reported a new infection involving a 24-year-old man who was already in quarantine.
Health Director General Patrick Amoth confirmed the latest case on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, assuring Kenyans that all infections remain linked to one known cluster.
According to Amoth, health officials have not detected any transmission outside the identified group, as surveillance and containment measures continue.
The newly confirmed patient is a close family member of Kenya’s first Ebola patient, who died after contracting the disease.
Amoth said medical teams isolated the 24-year-old at the first sign of illness, collected samples for testing and immediately initiated treatment after confirming the infection.

The Ministry of Health reported encouraging progress among the remaining patients, noting that the eight survivors were responding well to treatment.
All eight patients were described as stable and showing significant improvement while remaining under close medical observation.
The latest case highlights the importance of quarantine, early detection and rapid medical intervention in containing the spread of Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease.
Health authorities have continued monitoring individuals who may have been exposed to confirmed patients, while maintaining surveillance to identify potential infections promptly.
The government has also urged the public to remain vigilant and follow official health guidance as response teams work to prevent further transmission.
Although the confirmation of another infection raises Kenya’s total to nine, officials’ assessment that all cases belong to one cluster provides an important indication of the outbreak’s current transmission pattern.
The Ministry of Health is expected to provide further updates on the patients’ recovery, ongoing surveillance and additional containment measures as the response continues.
Kenyans have been advised to rely on verified information from health authorities and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports about the outbreak.
The situation remains under close monitoring as health officials work to protect communities and prevent the virus from spreading beyond the known cluster.
