Kipkorir did not hide his disappointment. In a strongly worded statement, the lawyer questioned how Nyong’o, whom he had regarded as a progressive leader, could allegedly allow a keynote speaker to stop addressing an ongoing meeting simply because the governor arrived late.
According to Kipkorir, Lumumba was delivering his keynote address when he was allegedly ordered to pause to allow Nyong’o to receive a welcome as he entered the venue.
“And the way we thought Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o was a progressive leader!” Kipkorir wrote, expressing disbelief at what he had witnessed.
He went further, asking whether a speaker addressing an audience should be forced to stop simply because a senior political leader had arrived after the programme was already underway.
Kipkorir’s strongest criticism was reserved for the manner in which Lumumba was allegedly interrupted. He described those who demanded the pause as “court jesters” and accused them of giving excessive attention to Nyong’o’s late arrival.
The lawyer also expressed solidarity with Lumumba, referring to him warmly as his “Bestest BFF” and making it clear that he considered the incident unacceptable.
His remarks have since added another layer of controversy to the event, with the debate now shifting from Nyong’o’s arrival to questions about respect, protocol and the treatment of keynote speakers at public functions.
