According to the report, preparations allegedly began weeks earlier, with meetings held to mobilise youths and disrupt the political gathering.
The newspaper further alleges that witnesses linked Governor Wanga and MP Kaluma to key meetings where youths were allegedly organised for the operation. It claims young men were paid, crude weapons were distributed and vehicles were provided as part of efforts to stop the rally.
The report also raises troubling questions about the conduct of security officers during the chaos. It alleges that police supplied tear gas while violence unfolded, leaving residents and political supporters caught in a dangerous confrontation.
The claims have immediately intensified the political debate in Homa Bay, with attention now shifting to whether those named in the investigation will provide convincing explanations.
Kaluma has already strongly rejected the allegations, accusing the media of publishing defamatory and politically motivated claims. He has challenged the newspaper to provide evidence supporting its account and has threatened legal action.
