Ndindi Nyoro Joins Opposition, Outlines Post-UDA Strategy

Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has officially severed ties with President William Ruto, marking a major shift in Kenya’s political landscape.

A key strategist and defender of the head of state during the 2022 general election, Nyoro was central to mobilizing the vote-rich Mount Kenya region behind the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) coalition.

Addressing the press, the lawmaker confirmed his exit from the ruling party, signaling an end to his political friendship with the President. Speaking on his departure, Nyoro cited growing differences over governance and fiscal management, aligning himself with the united opposition ahead of the upcoming election cycle.

Outlining his agenda under a united opposition administration, Nyoro stated that reforming the country’s healthcare sector would be his top priority. He promised a radical restructuring of social protection schemes to deliver universal health coverage.

“Our first mission after winning the upcoming election will be to make healthcare completely free for every Kenyan,” Nyoro said.

To finance the ambitious policy, the Kiharu legislator detailed a fiscal proposal targeting statutory deductions.

He revealed plans to cut mandatory National Social Security Fund (NSSF) contributions by half, diverting the saved revenue directly into funding health infrastructure, supply chains, and emergency services.

According to Nyoro, reducing the burden of pension contributions while bolstering the public health system will offer immediate relief to low-income households struggling with medical bills.

Nyoro’s exit represents a significant setback for the government’s influence in Central Kenya, where he remains a prominent political figure. As political realignments take shape, his economic proposals are expected to feature prominently in the opposition’s national campaign agenda.
