Osotsi Claims TEP Membership Hit 600,000 Within Hours Before Launch

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has claimed that over 600,000 people registered with The Equitable Party (TEP) within just two hours of its unveiling as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s political vehicle for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during TEP’s formal launch in Nairobi on Sunday, October 4, 2026, Osotsi stated that the rapid surge in online registrations was abruptly halted when the registration system went offline.

“Kwa hizi masaa mawili tumekuwa hapa, watu elfu mia sita walikuwa wame-register. Alafu yule Registrar, amesimamisha hiyo mitandao ya register,” Osotsi said.

He subsequently challenged the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) to immediately restore the platform, warning of a direct visit to the Registrar’s office if the system remains unavailable.

Osotsi, a key figure in the Linda Mwananchi Movement, did not provide a breakdown for the 600,000 figure, nor has the metric been independently verified.

In a further bold assertion, Osotsi claimed that 35 county branches previously affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have shifted allegiance to TEP. Pointing to attending political leaders as evidence—including a former ODM chairman from Turkana County—Osotsi declared that regional structures are rapidly realigning behind Sifuna.

The high-profile unveiling brought together several influential leaders linked to the Linda Mwananchi Movement, including Siaya Governor James Orengo, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Senators Boni Khalwale and Richard Onyonka, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

While attendance alone does not confirm formal membership, the gathering underscores growing consolidation among opposition figures.

TEP, an existing party now adopted by Sifuna and his allies, marks a formal shift in their political strategy as key players begin organizing structures ahead of the 2027 General Election.
