For weeks, political temperatures have continued to rise across the country as leaders and their supporters exchange sharp words over the future of Kenya’s leadership. Public rallies, media interviews, and social gatherings have increasingly become platforms where political differences are openly expressed, reflecting the intensifying rivalry ahead of the next General Election.
The latest development has emerged from Nandi County, where a section of residents aligned with the Kenya Kwanza administration has publicly voiced concern over recent remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The residents argue that political competition should not erode respect for national institutions, particularly the Office of the President.
Addressing journalists, the group criticized Gachagua’s statements, describing them as disrespectful to President William Ruto and inconsistent with the decorum expected of a former holder of the country’s second-highest office.
They maintained that regardless of political disagreements, the presidency deserves respect because it symbolizes national unity and the sovereignty of the Republic.
According to the residents, leaders should focus on presenting alternative policies and engaging Kenyans through issue-based politics instead of making personal attacks that could fuel unnecessary political hostility.
They warned that inflammatory rhetoric risks deepening divisions at a time when the country should be concentrating on development and economic recovery.
The residents further reaffirmed their support for President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying they remain confident in the government’s development agenda.

They cited ongoing infrastructure projects, agricultural initiatives, road construction, and programs aimed at empowering youth and women as reasons they continue backing the administration.
They also urged leaders from across the political divide to embrace peaceful politics and uphold mutual respect during public engagements.
According to the group, Kenya’s democratic space allows criticism of government policies, but such criticism should be expressed responsibly without diminishing the dignity attached to constitutional offices.
The residents appealed to Kenyans not to be distracted by political exchanges that they believe do little to improve livelihoods. Instead, they encouraged citizens to evaluate leaders based on their development record, integrity and commitment to solving the country’s pressing economic challenges.
They further called upon political leaders to avoid statements that could heighten political tensions or create unnecessary animosity among supporters. Maintaining peace, they said, remains critical as the country prepares for future political contests.
The remarks add another chapter to the growing political contest between President Ruto’s allies and supporters of former Deputy President Gachagua. The exchanges continue to dominate the national political conversation, with both camps defending their positions while seeking to consolidate support in different regions.
As political activity gathers momentum, analysts expect similar reactions from various parts of the country, highlighting the increasingly polarized environment that is likely to shape Kenya’s political landscape in the months ahead.
