Nyandarua Senator John Methu, who serves as the Secretary-General of the Democracy for the Citizens Party, has taken a firm stand on his party’s choice for the upcoming presidential race.
Addressing political developments within the outfit, the legislator drew a hard line regarding top leadership endorsement, openly departing from recent comments made by the party’s primary figurehead, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The disagreement stems from earlier public assertions where the former Deputy President indicated his willingness to step back and back alternative candidates, even hinting that he could accommodate supporting Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for the country’s highest office.
That sentiment aimed at fostering broad multi-regional coalitions met sharp internal pushback.
Rejecting any suggestion of compromising on the party standard-bearer, the Nyandarua Senator clarified that the movement would accept no alternative flagbearer other than their acknowledged leader.
