Many Kenyans voted for President Dr William Samoei Arap Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza Alliance Government during the hotly contested 2022 general elections with hopes that things will be different.

But fast forward, Kenyans have long lost hope in this administration and are threatening to even make the President a wantam president if the condition in the country remains bad.

In a fiery critique of the current administration, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua issued a stern warning to President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza coalition, declaring that their era of governing through state-sanctioned fear, abductions, intimidation, and widespread impunity is drawing to an end.

Addressing public concerns over the shrinking democratic space and the targeting of dissenting voices, the veteran politician emphasized that the ruling regime should be under no illusion about its longevity if it continues to bypass constitutional safeguards.

Karua highlighted that ordinary citizens—the true owners of the nation, or wenye nchi—have endured immense hardship, police excesses, and state overreach.

She firmly asserted that Kenyans will no longer tolerate a political environment where exercising constitutional freedoms, expressing critical opinions, or participating in peaceful assembly turns a citizen into a target for state harassment or clandestine detainment.

She insisted that the rights to freedom of expression, media liberty, and political participation are non-negotiable pillars of Kenya’s democracy that no government can suspend.

Reminding the political class that sovereign power ultimately resides with the electorate, Karua framed the upcoming 2027 General Election as a vital turning point for national redemption.

She urged citizens across all demographics to utilize their democratic ballot as an instrument to reclaim governance, restore institutional sanity, and establish leadership held strictly accountable to the rule of law.

According to Karua, the 2027 poll must transcend coercive politics and serve as a genuine ballot-driven contest anchored on democratic principles and respect for human dignity.
