Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has thrown her weight in the race as she publicly revealed her preferred presidential candidate in the general elections next year.
Addressing political gatherings across the Lower Eastern region, the governor emphasized that no other opposition contender possesses the administrative experience, strategic patience, and national track record necessary to unite the country and challenge the ruling administration.
Highlighting Kalonzo’s decades of public service, Ndeti urged opposition formations and voters countrywide to consolidate behind the veteran diplomat.
She pointed to his extensive tenure in government and historical contributions to national peace initiatives as proof of his executive readiness.
In her assessment, the opposition requires an extraordinary rallying point similar to the historic coalition movement that swept Mwai Kibaki into power in 2002. She argued that mirroring that pivotal political moment by uniting behind a single, tested leader remains the opposition’s most viable route to victory.
Ndeti appealed to the broader electorate and regional leaders to reject internal divisions and avoid scattered candidacies that could weaken the opposition’s bargaining power.
She noted that the Lower Eastern region has firmly settled on supporting Kalonzo’s bid, adding that building a broad-based, nationwide movement around his candidacy would offer a stable alternative for the country.
According to the governor, establishing a clear, unified leadership structure under Kalonzo will provide the clarity and momentum needed to reshape the national political landscape ahead of the polls.
