Video: Why Githunguri MP Wamuchomba Has Left UDA
Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has announced that she will not defend her seat on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
Wamuchomba made the announcement during a press conference at Parliament Buildings, where she explained her decision to leave the ruling party.
According to the Githunguri MP, her decision was influenced by what she described as tribal attacks targeting her community.
Wamuchomba said she could no longer remain in a political party where members of her community allegedly faced attacks and criticism based on their tribal identity.
Her announcement marks a significant change in her political relationship with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

For months, Wamuchomba had been closely associated with President William Ruto and was seen attending several events at State House.
The legislator had also been a vocal defender of the government, particularly when the administration faced criticism from sections of the public and political opponents.
Her position had previously placed her at odds with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who had called on leaders from the Mt Kenya region to reconsider their relationship with President Ruto’s administration.
Despite the pressure, Wamuchomba continued supporting the government and maintained her presence at various State House functions.
However, her latest announcement suggests that her political position has now changed.
Speaking at Parliament, Wamuchomba made it clear that she will not seek re-election to the Githunguri parliamentary seat using the UDA party.
The decision could have significant political implications in Githunguri and the wider Kiambu region as political parties prepare for the next General Election.
Wamuchomba’s departure also adds to the growing political debate surrounding the relationship between the Kenya Kwanza administration and leaders from the Mt Kenya region.
Her supporters will now be watching closely to determine which political party she joins and whether she will continue supporting President Ruto outside UDA.
The video of Wamuchomba making the announcement has since attracted attention online, with Kenyans debating the reasons behind her decision and its possible impact on the region’s political landscape.
