LIMURU, Kenya — Jubilant scenes erupted across parts of Central Kenya following news that the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) approved the official name reservation for the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM).

A viral video circulating widely on social media captures residents of Limuru town in Kiambu County taking to the streets, dancing, singing, and marching to celebrate the political milestone led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and his alliance partners.

The approval followed a ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), which set aside the Registrar’s earlier refusal to reserve the name. The Tribunal declared the initial rejection unlawful and ordered the ORPP to process the reservation.

In the video, crowds in Limuru can be seen blowing vuvuzelas, waving banners, and chanting slogans associated with the Linda Mwananchi outfit. Local motorbikes (boda bodas) joined the procession, honking as thrilled onlookers lined the streets to record the sudden celebration.

“This victory is not just for Senator Sifuna, but for ordinary citizens seeking genuine representation,” shouted one resident during the street march. “Seeing the name finally reserved gives us hope for a new political direction.”

The legal battle over the name involved founders including Michael Caroli Omondi, Pauline Njoroge, and Faith Odhiambo, who successfully challenged the Registrar’s previous stance. The decision clears a crucial hurdle for the movement as it steps up efforts to build formal party structures ahead of upcoming political reorganizations.

The spontaneous celebrations in Kiambu highlight the growing national interest in the movement, signaling its expanding political footprint beyond Nairobi into the Mt. Kenya region.
