Political friction within the Mount Kenya region has reached a boiling point following a fiery exchange between Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The confrontation escalated after Gachagua publicly labeled Nyoro a state operative who was allegedly handed a massive sum of two hundred million shillings by President William Ruto to fracture the Mount Kenya voting bloc ahead of the upcoming general elections to be held next year.
Responding forcefully to the grave accusations, Nyoro rejected the claims of being a government sponsored mole and dismissed allegations that his political moves are secretly funded by State House.
In a direct and blunt message to his political opponent, the Kiharu lawmaker told Gachagua to stop projecting his financial grievances onto others, adding that if Gachagua also desires funds from the Head of State, he should approach the President directly and ask for his share rather than dragging third parties into unfounded personal battles.
Nyoro insisted that his political decisions, including his choice to chart an independent path and build a new party framework, are entirely his own and aimed at offering genuine opposition leadership rather than acting on instructions from the administration.
He emphasized that his rift with the executive began when he openly resisted efforts to undermine and remove regional leaders, which ultimately led to his ejection from key parliamentary leadership roles.
The sharp back-and-forth highlights the deepening ideological and strategic divide among political heavyweights competing for control over the Mount Kenya electorate.
As accusations of betrayal, covert state sponsorship, and regional fragmentation fly between the opposing camps, the bitter fallout between Nyoro and Gachagua threatens to permanently rewrite the political alignment of the region.
