Sifuna Vows Not to Drop ‘Linda Mwananchi’ Brand Amid Registration Legal Battles
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has declared that he will not abandon the “Linda Mwananchi” movement, dismissing calls to drop the name following a legal stalemate with the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).
Speaking in Nairobi, the former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General made it clear that he and his allies—including Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino—have built a recognizable national brand over months of nationwide sensitization rallies and will fight to protect their identity.

The pushback comes after the ORPP declined to register “Linda Mwananchi” as a formal political party, citing claims that another entity had already registered or reserved the rights to the name. Rival groups have surfaced claiming copyright ownership over the label and threatening legal actions to halt Sifuna’s team from securing the brand.
Addressing supporters, Sifuna insisted that the movement is taking the matter to court to challenge the Registrar’s decision. He emphasized that the legal battle is about preserving the political identity they painstakingly built alongside ordinary Kenyans.
“What we are fighting for is not just a party; we are fighting for our brand and our name,” Sifuna stated. He added that the team maintains several alternative political strategies and back-up vehicles should the administrative hurdles persist.
Despite the tactical hitches and looming court battles, Sifuna promised his supporters that the movement’s push to address high taxation and the rising cost of living will proceed uninterrupted.
