Raphael Tuju Reveals His House Hostility Venue for Kenya’s Broad-Based Government
HOMA BAY, KENYA — Former Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju has revealed that the foundational negotiations that birthed Kenya’s broad-based government took place inside his private residence.
Speaking during a funeral service for a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer in Homa Bay County, Tuju shared previously undisclosed details about the high-stakes political consultations between President William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, the late Raila Odinga.
According to the former Cabinet Secretary, key political leaders convened at his home at the height of widespread nationwide protests, driven primarily by Gen Z youth demanding accountability, good governance, and systemic political reforms.

He explained that the decision to host the leaders was prompted by the grave security and political crisis threatening the stability of the nation at the time.
“The broad-based government was negotiated and formed right inside my house,” Tuju stated, adding that the political figures met in his residence to deliberate on solutions to de-escalate the rising tensions across the country.
Tuju emphasized that the partnership between President Ruto and the late Odinga was executed solely in the interest of national unity and public safety.
Addressing the mourners, he urged the public to prioritize national cohesion over political divisions, reminding citizens that political arrangements should serve to protect the country rather than incite conflict among ordinary Kenyans.
The formation of the broad-based administration subsequently saw key members of the opposition join President Ruto’s Cabinet, effectively reshaping the country’s political landscape following weeks of intense civil unrest.
Tuju’s revelation sheds fresh light on the clandestine diplomatic efforts that ultimately stabilized the nation during one of its most turbulent political periods.
