Chaos as Angry Orengo Faces Hostile Crowd in Homa Bay Funeral Over Two-Term Chants

HOMA BAY, KENYA — Political tensions escalated dramatically in Homa Bay County after Siaya County Governor James Orengo faced hostile interruptions from local residents during a burial service, highlighting growing divisions within the Nyanza region.

Video footage emerging online shows the vocal county chief encountering severe resistance immediately upon stepping up to address the mourners. As Orengo rose to speak, a section of the crowd broke into persistent “two-term” political chants aimed at expressing support for President William Ruto’s 2027 reelection agenda.

The hostile reception comes shortly after the Linda Mwananchi movement—co-led by Orengo and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna—faced a similarly tumultuous reception during a recent tour in Homa Bay town.

Orengo remains one of the prominent political figures in the region who have explicitly rejected the broad-based framework alignment and the two-term endorsement for the current administration.

Visibly agitated by the continuous interruptions, a furious Orengo lectured the hostile section of the crowd, refusing to yield the podium.

He insisted that the current government has not delivered meaningful development to warrant endorsement or two-term chants from the region.

Dismissing the hostile chants, Orengo declared that the Linda Mwananchi coalition remains unshaken and will soon traverse the country to address socio-economic challenges.

The incident highlights a widening rift among political leaders and residents in Nyanza. While key regional figures continue to align with President Ruto’s administration, anti-government movements face increasing resistance in certain strongholds, turning local events like funeral services into intense political battlegrounds.
