Bad News For Ruto In USA As Top Presidential Advisor Resigns
NAIROBI, Kenya — As President William Ruto engages international leaders at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in the United States, pitching Kenya’s health and security prospects, political headwinds back home have delivered a setback to State House.
According to a video widely circulated online, gospel musician turned politician Paul Waiganjo has officially resigned from his position as the Presidential Advisor on Development Affairs with immediate effect.
Waiganjo’s appointment was announced in June by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano during a church service in Ol-Kalou, Nyandarua County.

The posting came shortly after Waiganjo defected from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) following his loss in the party’s Ol-Kalou by-election primaries.
In the video, Waiganjo cited operational constraints, role redundancy, and limitations on his ability to effectively serve Kenyans as the primary reasons for stepping down. He noted that maintaining the advisory role hindered his capacity to address key community issues and fulfill development goals in the region.
The high-profile exit adds pressure on the administration at a moment when President Ruto is focused on diplomatic missions abroad.
The resignation highlights growing friction and alignment shifts within the Mt. Kenya political block, raising questions regarding State House advisory appointments. Neither State House officials nor the President’s communication team have formally commented on the resignation.
