Tensions flared at the Kakamega Central Police Station on Monday after law enforcement officers lobbed teargas canisters to disperse a crowd led by Democracy For The Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala.
Malala had stormed the station alongside party members to formally file a petition against county police leadership. He accused Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa of employing goons to intimidate political opponents, torch houses, and orchestrate systematic violence.
The situation escalated further as crowds gathered outside, demanding the immediate release of a social media influencer who had been arrested over critical posts targeting the county administration.
Amidst the melee, officers fired gunshots into the air to restore order as confrontations intensified. Despite the chaotic scenes and the use of teargas, Malala successfully delivered the petition.

He strongly criticized the local Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for allegedly shielding the governor and demanded the immediate transfer of the county commander. Daring the local OCPD to execute threats of his arrest, Malala maintained he was fully prepared to table concrete evidence against the county boss.
Shifting focus to national politics, Malala also announced that DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua is scheduled to return from the United States next week.
According to Malala, Gachagua will provide definitive direction on how the party plans to navigate coalition alliances and collaborate with other presidential contenders within the wider opposition framework.
