Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has delivered a sharp rebuke to senior figures in the Orange Democratic Movement as the party prepares to mark the first anniversary of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s death.

“We are heading for October 15, and already the vultures of ODM, cups, and tents are now planning. Raila was an enigma. Stop this nonsense,” Odinga declared.
Her remarks appear directed at leaders associated with large-scale mobilisations that rely on branded materials and temporary structures for rallies, among them Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed, Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma, and others perceived as driving certain factional activities.
The comments come just as ODM has unveiled an extensive programme of memorial events across the country throughout October.
The party has framed the month as a period of remembrance and rededication to the ideals of its late founder, who passed away on 15 October 2025 while receiving treatment in India.
Family-led activities are scheduled to take centre stage in the days leading up to the anniversary date itself. Odinga’s intervention highlights ongoing tensions over the party’s direction in the post-Raila era.
