Speaking during a public event in Homa Bay County, Wanga said the country had entered a new phase of inclusive leadership where political rivalry should give way to national unity and development.
She insisted that ODM’s decision to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration was deliberate and aimed at ensuring Kenyans benefit from stable governance and accelerated development projects.
The Homa Bay governor, who also serves as ODM national chairperson, defended the broad-based political arrangement between ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Ruto, saying the partnership was not a betrayal of supporters but a strategic move to place the country’s interests first.
Wanga argued that the era of “permanent campaigns and endless political fights” had slowed development and divided citizens along political lines.
According to her, ODM’s cooperation with the government would create room for dialogue, economic growth and improved service delivery across the country.
Her remarks come amid growing debate within the opposition over ODM’s increasing closeness to the ruling administration.
Some critics within the Azimio coalition have accused the party of abandoning its oversight role and weakening opposition politics by embracing cooperation with President Ruto.

However, Wanga dismissed the criticism, maintaining that ODM remains focused on protecting the interests of ordinary Kenyans while also supporting policies that benefit the public.
She noted that the party would continue engaging the government constructively rather than engaging in confrontational politics.
The governor further hinted that the broad-based arrangement could shape the country’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political analysts have increasingly speculated about a possible long-term alliance between ODM and Kenya Kwanza, especially after recent joint appearances by senior leaders from both sides.
Wanga urged ODM supporters to remain united and trust the party leadership, saying political strategies evolve depending on the needs of the country.
She added that the party’s involvement in government discussions would help secure more development opportunities for regions that have historically felt excluded from national power.
Her statement is expected to intensify political discussions across the country as leaders begin positioning themselves for the next general election.
With ODM appearing to soften its opposition stance, attention is now shifting to how the evolving political alliances could reshape Kenya’s 2027 contest and redefine the balance of power in national politics.
