Speaking during a public engagement on Friday, Kindiki said reports suggesting he had kept away from the government’s response efforts were misleading and politically motivated.

He maintained that the Kenya Kwanza administration worked collectively to stabilize fuel prices and ensure the continued supply of petroleum products nationwide.

The Deputy President noted that the government moved swiftly after concerns emerged over rising fuel costs and fears of shortages in several parts of the country.

According to Kindiki, consultations were held among senior government officials, including representatives from the Treasury, Energy Ministry and petroleum sector stakeholders, to cushion Kenyans from the impact of global oil market fluctuations.

He insisted that he remained fully briefed throughout the process and actively participated in high-level discussions aimed at finding lasting solutions. Kindiki accused critics of attempting to create divisions within government by portraying him as detached from key national matters.

“We are working as one government and one team. Attempts to suggest otherwise are meant to mislead Kenyans and score cheap political points,” Kindiki stated.

The Deputy President further defended measures taken by the government to stabilize the economy, saying international fuel price shocks had affected many countries beyond Kenya.

He argued that the administration had introduced interventions to protect consumers from even higher prices that could have worsened the cost of living.

His remarks come amid heightened political debate over the management of the energy sector, with opposition leaders accusing the government of failing to control the rising cost of fuel and basic commodities.

Some leaders had also questioned the visibility of senior government officials during the height of the fuel concerns.

However, Kindiki maintained that the government’s interventions had begun yielding positive results, pointing to improved fuel supply and ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s energy security.

He also called on leaders to avoid politicizing economic challenges facing the country, urging them instead to support policies meant to stabilize the economy and protect ordinary Kenyans.

Political analysts say the Deputy President’s statement reflects growing efforts within the Kenya Kwanza administration to project unity amid increasing scrutiny over the state of the economy and the rising public pressure on the government to address the high cost of living.

Even as debate continues, Kindiki reassured Kenyans that the government remains committed to implementing long-term strategies to shield the country from future fuel shocks and reduce dependence on external market forces.
